From the influential and ever-growing movement "I Am Second" comes a remarkable collection of well-known lives transformed from restless to happy by the power of God.

When I Am Second launched in 2008, the organization meant simply to tell stories of people whose lives changed utterly when they placed God first and themselves second. Although the organization has exploded in size and influence since, that original mission has remained the same—and continues to have enormous power today. I Choose Peace is the highly anticipated new book from I Am Second, gathering together stories of people who searched everywhere for fulfillment and wholeness and found it only when they surrendered to God. People whose stories appear include the following:

  • Chip and Joanna Gaines
  • Kathie Lee Gifford
  • Albert Pujols
  • Shawn Johnson
  • Phil and Kay Robertson
  • Brian "Head" Welch
  • Moving, compelling, and profoundly inspiring, the stories found here remind us that our hearts will always be restless until they find their rest in God.

Here are 16 biographical stories culled from I Am Second, a multimedia movement and not-for-profit organization designed to inspire people to put Jesus first and themselves second. The stories dramatize their subjects' searches for peace in often rocky and challenging lives. Many of the subjects are well known, such as TV personality Kathie Lee Gifford, A&E's Duck Dynasty stars Phil and Kay Robertson, author and speaker Eric Mataxas, Cy Young Award-winner R. A. Dickey, major league baseball all-star Albert Pujols, and others. The book is divided in three sections, "Finding Peace in Love and Loss," "Finding Peace in Identity and Purpose," and "Finding Peace in Difficulty and Disappointment," the last of which contains the most painful and challenging stories. The inspirational stories are well-written and uniformly interesting if sometimes a bit formulaic. Each story is accompanied by a black-and-white photograph of the subject. Those looking for a supportive read will find it here.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2019, American Library Association.)
