Orphans and humans and weres, oh my! Escape into this delicious shifter romance from bestselling author Mary Janice Davidson.
Oz Adway is a rare breed: an accountant who wants to get dirty. And, by the way, a wolf shifter working for the Interspecies Placement Agency. Bored with his safe office job, he volunteers to find runaway bear cub Sally Smalls, recently orphaned by a plane crash. Piece of cake, right? Unfortunately, Sally's taken refuge with "ordinary" human Lila Kai, a reluctant guardian who has no idea what's going on, but will destroy anyone who tries to take the cub. Not that it matters. Oz is not about to let a gorgeous Stable jeopardize his career move.
As for Lila, she knows something's different about the sexy weirdo who keeps popping up in the wrong place at the right time. She's determined to figure out what, regardless of the escalating threats to her safety and Oz's distracting hotness. She didn't move into a cursed house and take in a werebear just to run when things get complicated. Together, Oz and Lila will prevail! But only if they can keep their hands off each other...
Put away your pocket protectors: This hilarious story includes a nerdy shifter accountant with a bad-boy side, a fiercely protective human heroine, and a baby bear cub that will make every reader sigh in cuteness.

Davidson returns to the delightfully bonkers paranormal world of Bears Behaving Badly for this hilarious second BeWere My Heart romance. Lila Kai’s life has been a bumpy ride—so, though she is unaware of the supernatural, it gives her just a moment’s pause when she hits a wolf on the way into her new home in Lilydale, Minn., only to get out of the decommissioned ambulance she’s driving and see that there’s no body. She’s likewise unfazed when, moments later, two kids flag her down for medical assistance and lead her to an abandoned bear cub. Lila attempts to call animal control—but that’s not how things are done in the predominantly shifter community of Lilydale. Instead, her strange ride lands her in the path of Oz Adway, a wolf shifter, accountant, and the newest field agent for the IPA, a shifter protection organization. Oz is immediately curious about Lila—and just as quickly smitten. As a series of strange occurrences plague Lilydale, Lila, Oz, and a small band of local foster children land neck-deep in potentially lethal weirdness. Davidson sandwiches her trademark laugh-out-loud moments between somewhat heavier beats and stream-of-consciousness inner monologues. The result is as thought-provoking as it is funny and guaranteed to entertain. Agent: Ethan Ellenberg, Ethan Ellenberg Literary.

Narrator Susan Bennett immerses listeners in this story, which begins when Lila Kai's vehicle hits what she thinks is a wolf but is really werewolf Oz Adway. She becomes further entangled in shifter problems when she finds a 10-year-old bear-shifter named Sally. Bennett picks up the pace as tension builds between Oz and Lila. Listeners feel Oz's frantic thoughts when he's in wolf form. Bennett also masterfully handles the melodious brogue of a Scottish character. It can be slightly challenging to determine whether some of the dialogue is spoken aloud or internal, but this doesn't detract from the listening experience. S.B. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine
